In 2011, the Ford Ranger will cease being produced

All automobile manufacturers are cutting models that don’t fit in anymore. Following 2011, there won’t be another Ranger made in America The light pickup by Ford has barely received more than a little cosmetic upgrade for over a decade. There was a reason for that, as the Ranger was typically the best selling light pickup on the market. In 2011, the Ranger as it is known could have its swan song and probably will not be produced anymore. The business is deciding to focus instead on the Ecoboost equipped F-150 as the option for a fuel efficient pickup.

The wildly popular Ranger

Throughout the 1990s, the Ford Ranger was incredibly popular. It was really the best selling light pickup in North The United States. There was a reason for that. It was anything a person could want in a truck. The Ranger was priced less than a full size truck and got about 20 miles to the gallon. It was known for reliability. The Ranger was also equal to any task on or off road. Other light truck makers, like Toyota, upgraded light pickups to consist of crew cabs and more seating, which began to seal the fate of the Ranger. The peak came in 1999, according to Wikipedia. That year, Ford sold over 348,000 Rangers. That was the high water mark. By 2009, sales had slipped to 55,000.

It had a good run

Ford had to come up with something else, or redesign the Ranger. But Ford went with another choice. The truck is getting redesigned for overseas markets, according to USA Today, but the new version won’t be accessible within the United States. Ford will be trying to push the turbo V-6 F150 instead. It seems a slightly dubious move. The F150 costs thousands more than the Ranger, and the Ecoboost V-6 has an additional premium attached to it also. Ford has sort of been ignoring the Ranger in the last few years. Most of the sales were from fleet sales.

Facility where Ranger is made done also

Adding insult to injury, Ford is also shutting down the facility that used for making the Ranger. The truck is within the firing line, and the facility goes with it. Ford will shutter the Ford plant in St. Paul, Minn. Ford tried to give it a crew cab, but found that people liked it better with a different name. That model is still getting sold. It’s called the Explorer Sport Trac.
